Foochow

Foochow, now known as Fuzhou, is the capital of the Fujian province in China. The Treaty Port in Foochow was one of the original 5 treaty ports opened in 1842 by the Treaty of Nanking. It was one of the most important places for protestant missionaries in China during this period, and remained so until the 1950s. The Foochow Treaty Port closed on 30 November, 1922.

Surprisingly few covers seem to exist from Foochow. Most are either Montgomery Ward or wrappers and there are no examples with destinations other than USA, Canada, and Great Britain.
