The Hong Kong 'China' Overprints
British Offices In China 1917 - 1930

WEI HAI WEI - LIU KUNG TAU

Wei Hai Wei - The Chinese city of Wei Hai Wei is fifty miles east of Chefoo on the tip of the Shantung Peninsula and was leased to the British in May 1898. It was occupied until its return in October 1930. The leasehold consisted of an area of 285 square miles, including the town of Liu Kung Tau. Because Wei Hai Wei was leased from China it so was different from the other Treaty Ports. The 26mm single circle cancel type D reported by Webb is believed not to exist..

Notes

This set of adhesives has me somewhat stumped. The cancels all measure exactly 24mm, yet the cds is with dashed Index A and are all dated Aug 31, 1930. Presumably this was some form of favor cancel but if anyone has information, it would be appreciated.
